The implementation of the individual country programmes under the CARISMA project is sub-contracted to Social Marketing Organisations (SMOs). The sub-contracted SMOS all have experience in social marketing, condom distribution, behaviour change communications or other areas of HIV and AIDS and/or reproductive health in the Caribbean region.
Academy for Educational Development (AED)
Founded in 1961, AED is an independent, nonprofit organisation committed to solving critical social problems and building the capacity of individuals, communities, and institutions to become more self-sufficient. AED works in all the major areas of human development, with a focus on improving education, health, and economic opportunities for the least advantaged in the United States and developing countries throughout the world. AED works in more than 15 Central, South American and Caribbean countries.
In Suriname AED will work with its partner, the IPPF affiliate Stichting Lobi, to ensure that the commercial, social marketing and public sector are making products available and that targeted behaviour change activities are implemented to prevent HIV infection and to increase family planning uptake.

PSI Dominican Republic
PSI Dominican Republic is responsible for implementing the HIV and AIDS component of the CARISMA project in the Dominican Republic.
PSI Dominican Republic has been involved in a variety of activities over the past six years, primarily executing and managing STI, HIV and AIDS prevention projects. PSI launched its targeted condom social marketing project in the DR in September of 2003 with funding from USAID. In 2005 PSI launched a mass media behaviour change communication campaign targeting youth funded by USAID, and the evaluative media impact survey revealed significant impact on attitudes and behaviours among youth as a result. PSI Dominican Republic’s first project was designed to reach commercial sex workers and their clients directly, working closely with local NGOs to ensure carefully targeted condom distribution. Since then, PSI has been part of the CARISMA project, working with NGOs to distribute condoms to commercial sex establishments, motels, and colmados in areas with high rates of sex tourism and prostitution in general throughout the country. PSI also works with NGOs which focus on activities in batey areas.

PSI Haiti
PSI Haiti is responsible for implementing the HIV and AIDS component of the CARISMA project in Haiti.
PSI Haiti has been at the forefront of HIV prevention and social marketing in Haiti for almost two decades. In 1989, PSI/Haiti’s first condom social marketing project was launched to increase access to high-quality and affordable condoms as well as HIV prevention information for low-income, high-risk populations. Today, PSI/Haiti’s Panté is the only socially marketed male condom brand in Haiti. Sales since project inception have exceeded 100 million. PSI Haiti has established an information, education and communication (IEC) programme for youth that encourages adoption of HIV and AIDS risk-reduction behaviours and responsible sexual behaviours through peer education and mass media activities.
PSI currently receives funding from The Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), YouthAIDS and The Federal Republic of Germany through KfW/PANCAP.
