This 2008 HIV MAP study is a follow up survey to one conducted in 2006, determining the levels of coverage, quality of coverage, penetration rate, and access of/to condoms in various parts of Haiti and in specific high-risk areas for HIV/AIDS (hotzones). The survey found that on average, the availability of condoms (of any type) in census enumeration areas has increased between 2006 and 2008. In 2008, male condom coverage in high-risk areas for HIV/AIDS was estimated to be at least 95%, as compared to at least 20% for Reyalite. The study also showed that commercial sector condoms are available in about 1 in 4 enumeration areas (27%), and public sector (i.e. unbranded condoms) were found to be sold in 9.3% of localities – again, this is an increase as compared to the 2006 levels. Quality of coverage criteria were generally poorly met, though an improvement was seen as compared to 2006.
